Notes from My Travels by: Angelina Jolie

My 3rd book post happens to be the very emotional: Notes from My Travels by: Angelina Jolie. It is all about her humanitarian work  with the UNHCR in Africa, Cambodia, Pakistan, and Ecuador. This has been a fascinating and very sad book for me to read, because we are so sheltered in America and there is so much going on in the world that we don’t know about.

Finally finished a few weeks ago, the book is very emotional and sometimes heartwrenching like I said before and the sheer lack of funding that UNHCR recieves and the amount of effort that they put out is amazing. I love that Ms. Jolie is a part of such a wonderful organization and that she has brought about such an awareness to the overwhelming amount of refugees in the world today and what is being done for them and what still needs to be done.

Quotes that spoke to me:

“More than twenty million refugeed exist today.”

“One-sixth of the world’s population lives on less than one dollar a day.”

“The strength of survival here is amazing to me. They don’t complain. They don’t even beg.” – Angelina Jolie

“The children here grab your hands and walk with you, smiling and singing. They have nothing. They are wearing ripped dusty clothes and they are smiling.” – Angelina Jolie
